HeidiSQL is a win32 executable actually, not a Linux package. It is FOSS however (hence the ability to port it is readily there), and works quite well.

Querious is a very good tool too thanks Keloran.

The criteria was free and open source tools, but the recommendation is most appreciated

You missed Querious (OSX) unless your criteria was free

sequel pro doesnt have user controls, where as Querious does
