10 Free Text Editors For Coders and Designers
A good number of designers use software such as Dreamweaver to code their projects, but a large portion still code by hand using a text editor, it might not be as quick but you know what code is going in there as its all yours.
Notepad in windows is still widely used (myself included) but whilst notepad is good there is software out there that will make it easier, by adding line numbers (very handy for PHP) as well colouring and highlighting features to name a few.

Allow me to add my favourite one: Scite by Scintilla. In the middle between notepad and notepad
