Google: Past, Present and Beyond
Google undoubtedly is the worlds top search engine, its been a staple part of many of our lives for years now, what started as a project for two University students, has now become a multi billion dollar company.
As with any site the layout and design was changed, modernised and improved, what I have done here is collect Google’s design history for you to view and see how the search engine has improved from a design perspective.
We are going to start our flashback from 11th November 1998, the design was the initial layout and was altered on the 2nd December 1998.

(11th November 1998)
Google stuck with this design from the 2nd December 1998 to April 22nd 1999.

(2nd December 1998)

(22nd April 1999)
Google was starting its huge ascend, and the design changed in February and then once more in May 2000.

(29th February 2000)

(10th May 2000)
Between May 2000 and October 2001 the design remained pretty much the same, On the 2nd October 2001 options for “Web”, “Images”, “Groups” and “Directory” where added to the main page.

(October 2001)
September 2002 saw the addition of “News” added to the main page, from September 2002 until March 2004 the design remained similar.

(September 2002)

(March 2004)
March 2004 saw the options change from tabs to simple links with the addition of the Froogle and more>> links, and nearing closer to the Google design we know and love.

(2005)
From March 2004 to 17th May 2007 Google’s design hardly altered at all, the only exceptions being Maps, Videos and Gmail etc.. links added to the main page, on the 17th May we saw the introduction of the menu across the top of the screen, containing our links and login options.

(17th May 2007)
May 2007 until very recently saw very little alteration in the design, but in September 2009 we saw the SUPER sized search box!

(September 2009)
So what’s next for the Google design? Is it going to remain in its tried and tested format, or is it going to modernise?
Over at http://www.infinise.com they have sketched up a possible look for Google, and I found it really easy to use, as well as being super slick and modern which you can check out here: http://go.infinise.com (Well done chaps!)
